The issue I have chosen to explore is U.S. Healthcare Financing. This issue has become increasingly important as the cost of healthcare continues to rise, leaving many people without access to proper care and services due to financial constraints.
The two significant facts about this topic are that it is estimated that the United States spends more on healthcare than any other country in the world, yet still has millions of citizens who lack basic coverage or access to care; and that according to a 2019 study by Milliman, Inc., total spending on healthcare was over $3 trillion dollars, equating to 17% of Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
I am interested in exploring this issue further because it directly impacts both me and my family, as well as countless other Americans who cannot afford either insurance or medical treatment out-of-pocket costs. It is essential for everyone’s health and wellbeing that our nation develops a more effective system for ensuring financial security when accessing quality healthcare services – especially for those most vulnerable members of society such as low-income individuals and families, people with disabilities, minorities and seniors living alone or with limited resources. Understanding the issues surrounding U.S. Healthcare Financing can help us make informed decisions about how best to provide equitable access among all citizens regardless of socio-economic status or circumstances beyond their control
