Q1: What elements of your community’s risk assessment process would you choose to display on maps? Why? What are some of the sources you would use to create your maps?
Q2: What role does the risk assessment play in creating the city’s mitigation strategies? Identify the natural hazards that affect your community (Orlando); determine if any are chronic hazards. What is the most concerning in your neighborhood/house? Are there any particular group that could be particularly affected by that hazard?
Q3: What can past events tell us about the frequency and magnitude of natural hazards in one place? Searching online, try to learn a little bit about the history of Orlando regarding hazards/disasters and assess the probability (hint: you can use table 10.2 as a guide) and potential magnitude/intensity (hint: you can talk about the category of the hurricane, the magnitude of the earthquake etc.) of the following hazards: tornadoes, hurricanes, earthquakes, excessive rainfall, and extreme cold/snowstorm.
