  How involved do you think governments should be in addressing the issue of inequalities of social class? In presenting your response, try to see the negative as well as the positive sides of your argument. (For example, if you were to suggest that the wealthy pay much higher taxes and receive fewer business deductions, would many businesses fail, thus causing many people to lose their jobs? On the other hand, if you were to suggest that the poor are left to their own devices, that if they could not expect handouts they would survive somehow, is it not possible that their survival might consist of anarchy?) Very often we all get set in our ways of thinking about things. Sometimes they are right for their times but need adjusting as times change, sometimes they are simply passed down from generation to generation and are basically wrong. As I have already mentioned, in this course I want you to start to learn to think outside your regular box.
