How lay audiences may evaluate and process information

3-1 Discussion: Single Overriding Communication Objective (SOCO) Framework to Review Scientific Literature
Available on Saturday, July 11, 2020 11:59 PM EDT
Use the CDC single overriding communication objective (SOCO) template to review one scientific reference related to your public health problem statement or intervention (see page 64 in Essentials of public health communication for the SOCO template).

Summarize the key points of your chosen article, identify three facts or statistics that should be communicated to the public, identify primary and secondary audiences of the information, and write a brief takeaway message for those audiences.

Discuss how lay audiences may evaluate and process this information. When responding to your classmates, provide feedback on the key points, statistics, audience, and takeaway message described in their posts.

Note: Scientific references should be peer-reviewed sources from professional journals or scientific reviews such as a scientific consensus report, a meta-analytic study, or a comprehensive organization report. Examples of scientific references are provided in supplementary resources.
