Description
Human evolution is a fascinating sub-discipline of evolutionary biology. It’s existence continues to be widely debated more than 150 years after Charles Darwin published “On the Origin of Species”, the book that proposed a general mechanism by which new species, including Homo sapiens are created. Compose an essay of at least 500 words, and based on this article, that describes the evidence that supports the theory of human evolution. In a separate paragraph of your essay include your own reasoning for at least two traits that you think would provide a selective advantage for Homo sapiens relative to our primate ancestors lacking these traits. You might use chimpanzees as surrogates for our most recent common ancestor with primates, even though our most recent common ancestor with other primates is very likely to have shared more traits in common with us than chimpanzees do (sadly these ancestral lineages are extinct because they didn’t compete with us – Homo sapiens well enough to persist to the present). Finally, in a closing paragraph, describe traits that you imagine could provide a selective advantage for the evolution of a species that could split off from Homo sapiens and that, in time, might replace us. When you describe these traits provide a reason you think these traits would produce a selective advantage over us.
