To implement a public policy, a public administrator has to undergo a complex process to assess the problem, identify a solution, involve other stakeholders, and finally, justify the policy to government constituents. During the last two weeks, you have learned about this process. In this assignment, you are going to assess the process already being implemented for a recent public policy.
Research your local or state government and find a recent public policy example. Identify the problem, stakeholders, and competing values associated with the adopted public policy.
Create a presentation to your colleagues (approximately 10 slides) designed to persuade your colleagues on best practices for the public policy process, using your researched public policy as evidence. Use the theories of policy production to help explain the steps a public administrator needs to take in order to get a policy created effectively.
Based on your research and assessment, were the stages followed well in implementing your public policy example? Could any of the stages have been addressed better? If you had pursued the public policy, how would you have approached its creation and implementation?
