Interpersonal Communication

Interpersonal Communication Order Description the name of the movie to write about is titled "50 First Dates". Below are the directions: 1. Use one of the assigned movies in your paper. a. Please note that I don’t want nor do I need a summary/review of the movie—assume that I’ve seen it so you only need to give enough detail to establish the context of your paper. i. In other words, what information does the reader need in order to understand the example you are using? ii. Give enough detail for clarity, but not too much so that it overwhelms what you are trying to say in your paper. 2. Use examples from the assigned articles in your paper to prove your thesis and main points.( I will upload the article and send you the links also, because some articles are PDF) a. Pull at least one specific example from both the textbook ( I will send you also the slides from my class) and article and then use it to help support one of the points you are making. i. As noted above with the movie, a summary/review of each article is not needed nor wanted. 3. Use an example from personal experience. a. Make sure you give enough detail that someone who has no prior knowledge of this example will be able to understand it, but not so much that we’re overwhelmed with unnecessary detail. b. You might find that you only mention your example once or that you return to it in later sections, such as identifying that you once faced a similar problem and then in the solutions section noting how you successfully resolved it as framing (or simply one example of) how you could have resolved the situation. 4. Include a clear thesis statement. 5. Organize your paper. a. You should have a clear introduction, body, and conclusion. 6. Communicate clearly and effectively with few, if any, mistakes in citation, grammar, spelling, and punctuation. a. Use APA formatting, which you can find by Googling “APA OWL Purdue.” i. Common errors: 1. Not using a comma after every item in a list (some guides say not to include one before the last item—this is wrong) 2. Double-spacing after a period 3. There / their / they’re 4. Its / it’s 5. Effect / affect 6. Putting punctuation inside parenthesis 7. Putting punctuation outside of the closing quotation mark 8. Putting commas where you would pause when speaking, which is not necessarily where they belong when you write b. Make sure to include the References as your last page. This is NOT included as part of your word or page count. 7. Your paper should be 3-5 pages long. a. APA formatting is double-spaced, 12-point font (usually Times New Roman, but any standard-size font is acceptable), and 1” margins all around. b. Remember page numbers including a header that is simply your last name – right aligned with the page number after it. Grading A detailed rubric for the paper is available for you (attached as a separate document), but generally speaking you will be graded on the following 5 areas: A – A focused thesis statement B – Organization (intro / body / conclusion with main points supporting the thesis) C – Uses 3 examples from the assigned materials D – Uses an example from personal experience or popular culture E – Clear, effective writing, using proper grammar and spelling
