Select an operation, activity or department within an operation as “the case”. Students are expected to select a case appropriate to their programme of study and one with which they are familiar. 1. Introduce the case (up to 200 words). • Give a brief descriptive overview of the case and any key points about whether the characteristics of the context may impact on your approach to the task, e.g soft or hard problems may dominate in the context. 2. Research, identify and categorise: • Problems and risks that may affect the ability of the case to achieve its objectives. • Key decisions that are required if the case is to achieve its objectives. • The main types and sources of information required to support the problem solving and decision making.
