The greatest difference a literacy leader can make is by elevating the expertise of the teaching staff. I will focus on unlocking their potential through the following strategies:

Instructional Coaching over Evaluation: I will prioritize a coaching model centered on specific, high-leverage literacy practices (e.g., explicit phonological awareness instruction, structured word study, effective comprehension strategy modeling). Instead of solely auditing performance, I will engage in job-embedded professional development, utilizing tools like pre- and post-observation conferences, shared lesson planning, and co-teaching to facilitate skill transfer. This approach respects teachers as professionals and builds sustained efficacy.

Advocacy for Time and Resources: I will advocate for protected time in the master schedule for collaborative data analysis and curriculum planning. Teachers need time to collaboratively examine student diagnostic data (e.g., fluency rates, phonics inventories) and align their instruction to specific student needs. I will ensure they have immediate access to high-quality, research-aligned curricular materials, thereby reducing the burden of sourcing or creating ineffective resources.
