Literary Elements of a Poem

  You have a choice of three stories to pick from for this assignment” “Araby,” “The Fall of the House of Usher,” or “The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas.” Once you have selected the story you want to write on, look at the literary elements list provided in this week’s folder. Choose any four literary elements from that list, and then discuss how the writer has used these four literary elements in the story. For instance, if you are writing on “Araby,” you might want to discuss the setting—which is one of the literary elements on the list—in the story. Go beyond just picking a literary element and saying that it is used in the story. Explain what purpose the literary element serves in the story, too. Also, you can assume that your reader knows the stories, so you don’t have to provide any summary. At most, you can provide one brief summary paragraph, but the majority of the essay should focus on the analysis of the literary elements of your choice.
