In at least 250 of your own words, what sort of answers or comments might you hear in an employment interview that might suggest an applicant’s tendency toward violence?
Sample Solution
The first thing to look for in an employment interview are comments that could indicate violent tendencies. An applicant who speaks about their past or current experiences with violence,
either as a victim or perpetrator, can be a red flag. Common comments might include references to “losing their temper” easily, having problems controlling their emotions, having been in physical altercations or fights in the past, being involved or present during criminal activities (such as gang-related violence), and mentioning any type of weapon they have used before.
Another indication of possible violent tendencies is if an applicant makes disparaging comments about particular groups of people – whether they are racial minorities, genders, political affiliations or religious beliefs – that could imply prejudice or intolerance. Similarly, individuals who express feelings of hate towards authority figures like law enforcement officers may also suggest potential issues with aggression.
An applicant's attitude towards others can also provide insight into possible violent behavior; someone who speaks disrespectfully to you and/or your colleagues should raise concerns. Additionally, applicants who appear overly argumentative and unwilling to compromise may also be displaying signs of future aggression on the job. Finally, if an individual displays lack of empathy for others' situations and expresses little remorse for mistakes made in the past this can make them more likely to respond with violence when faced with conflict.
