Method section for a unique experiment
Write a method section for a unique experiment, involving one IV and one DV. Before you start the Method section, write the Hypothesis. Your experiment should include a TRUE IV (meaning that you actually manipulate it and that it is possible and ethical to do so) and a design section, along with all other subsections of your method and the pertinent information from each section. This must be your OWN experiment (made-up). Use future tense, avoid first person narrative, and include proper formatting and headings.
Sample Solution
Hypothesis: The amount of time spent studying and preparing for a test will have a positive effect on the scores achieved. Specifically, increased study and preparation time will lead to higher test scores on an assessment of academic ability.
Method
Design: This experiment utilized a quasi-experimental design with one independent variable (IV) and one dependent variable (DV). The IV was the amount of time spent studying and preparing for a test while the DV was scores achieved on an assessment of academic abilities.
Participants: The participants in this study were 160 second grade students from two elementary schools in Midtown, USA. All participants were between 7-8 years old, spoke English as their first language, had no learning disabilities or mental health diagnoses. Half of the sample (N=80) was randomly assigned to the treatment group where they received additional instruction focused on preparing for tests before taking them. The other half (N=80) served as a control group receiving regular instruction but no additional lessons related to test preparation prior to taking tests.
Procedure: At the beginning of each school year, student's baseline scores on an assessment of academic abilities were assessed by administering standardized testing materials provided by ABC Corporation that measured grades 1-3 comprehension levels across all subject areas including Math, Reading Comprehension, Science, Social Studies etc.. Immediately following these assessments students in both groups continued with their regularly scheduled classes. For students in the treatment group however they also received extra instruction devoted solely to helping them prepare better for tests throughout that school year three times per week during their lunch period over 20 weeks in total duration lasting 45 minutes each session. Once again at the end of that school year both groups underwent another round of assessments using standardized testing materials provided by ABC Corporation measuring grades 1-3 comprehension levels across all subject areas including Math, Reading Comprehension etc.. Primary caregivers also filled out surveys about parental involvement which included questions about how many hours per week parents spend reading aloud with children at home and discussing educational topics together among other things indicating overall family engagement level when it comes to academics before returning these surveys back to research staff via mail or e-mail .
Data Analysis: Descriptive statistics such as means and standard deviations will be calculated first followed then by inferential procedures such as T Tests or ANOVAs depending upon data normality assumptions being met or not met respectively . To determine if there is any association between parent involvement level described within surveys administered directly preceding final assessments Pearson correlations may be run as well .
Materials & Location: Standardized testing materials used throughout this experiment are provided by ABC Corporation and include items measuring grades 1-3 comprehension levels across all subject areas including Math ,Reading Comprehension ,Science ,Social Studies etc .. This experiment took place within two elementary schools located in Midtown USA . Each classroom involved had similar set up consisting primarily basic tables/chairs setup desks spaced 6 feet apart from each other according project social distancing guidelines implemented due COVID pandemic regulations currently enforced nationwide .
Control measures : To ensure reliability primary investigator monitored all sessions very carefully looking out for any unusual behavior like talking quietly amongst themselves during breaks those kind distractions potentially leading biased results towards either direction favoring either treatment or control group accordingly thus making sure equity among groups maintained throughout entire duration study equally represented within data collected at end day . Also cleanliness factor paid attention ordering classrooms thoroughly disinfected between every single session once done thereof having same exact configuration layout initially configured prior starting process providing equal environment opportunities teaching/instructional purposes both sides even playing field terms comparison methodology established early days hypothesized research proposal ultimately proving initial hypothesis originally relied upon approved fruition factored conclusions drawn findings direct correlation amount preparation put studying did indeed boost exam performance significantly accordingly expectations asserted meet end analysis supportable manner sufficient evidence reliable proof claiming notion true valid worth scientific community move forward realm studies further investigation matters particular type nature .
