National cinema

In light of Taiwan’s uncertain status as a “nation,” consider the following.

1. What is the national cinema? At once social, cultural, economic, political, technological, and industrial, how do we understand the cinema within the framework of the nation?
2. What is the national allegory? How do certain narratives—from literature, theater, painting, to especially cinema—allegorize the nation, its history, and people?
