Origins of the Change
The change was necessitated by the company's rapid growth and the limitations of its outdated technology. We were operating on a patchwork of disconnected, legacy systems. The sales team used one platform for orders, finance used a different system for accounting, and our production floor ran on a third, highly customized piece of software. This created what we called "data silos." Information was not shared in real-time, leading to constant errors, delays, and an inability to get a unified view of our business. For example, a sales order placed in the morning might not show up on the production schedule until the following day, causing bottlenecks and missed deadlines. The company's leadership recognized that to continue scaling and remain competitive, we needed a single, integrated platform that could serve as a "single source of truth" for all our data.
