Panic disorder

You are assigned to treat an individual who has been diagnosed with a specific psychological disorder.Choose one of the disorders discussed in the chapter on psychological disorders (it can be
any one of the specific disorders – it is your choice – i.e., panic disorder, dissociative identity disorder, major
depressive disorder, schizophrenia to name a few – it can be any disorder outlined in the chapter). You are
not limited to those just mentioned.
Answer all of the following questions.
Identify the disorder you have chosen for this case study.
What category or type of disorder in the DSM 5 does it fall under (Anxiety, Anxiety-related, Dissociative,
Disorders involving emotion and mood – Depressive/Mood, Schizophrenia Spectrum and Other Psychotic
Disorders, or Personality disorders)?
Define and describe the above category of the disorder.
Define the disorder and describe in detail the symptoms of the disorder you have chosen.
What factors do you believe may have caused the disorder?
Based on the disorder chosen, discuss therapy recommendations as follows. Be specific.
Identify and describe a biological therapy you would recommend. If drug therapy, include the category of
drug and a specific type/example (i.e., Antidepressant – Prozac).
Of the psychotherapies outlined in the textbook, identify and describe the specific approach
(psychoanalytic, humanistic, behavioral, cognitive) you would recommend. Also, provide a specific example
of a type of therapy and/or technique associated with this approach. Describe the therapeutic technique you
are recommending (i.e., Humanistic – Client-Centered Therapy).
Identify and describe a sociocultural approach you would recommend (i.e., group therapy, support group,
etc.).
Discuss why you choose each of the three specific types of therapy and outcomes you expect.
