Perception, PESSIMISM, direction, motivation

Submit an essay that addresses the following quote: “Pessimism never won any
battle” (Dwight D. Eisenhower).
You will need to use a combination of the information from the lectures and associated
readings as well as academic research and your own personal reflection when addressing
this quote. I expect a critical analysis of the issue. As there is a strict word limit, it is
expected that your response will be clear, concise, and referenced.
Some points that you may wish to address in your essay include:
• What is pessimism?
• What is the impact of pessimism on individuals? On firms?
• Why should firms be concerned about having pessimistic employees?
• Can pessimism be a good thing?
• Are you a pessimistic person?
• How can you overcome pessimism in your own life? In the workplace?
• Is it wise to always be optimistic? Always pessimistic? Is there a balance between
the two extremes?
• Give relevant personal real-life examples in your discussion.
• Use the information from the lectures and associated readings from Weeks 1 – 5
in your response.
• Use the results from your various tasks (personality test, perception observations,
motivation exercises etc.) that we have undertaken from Weeks 1 – 5 when
addressing the issue.
• Undertake your own additional research from relevant academic journal articles.
