“Peter Pan” by J. M. Barrie

  1. Read “Peter Pan” by J. M. Barrie (Chapters 1-14)
  2. In full sentences, please respond to the following prompt in roughly 600 words.

As we near the end of Peter Pan, we are given more insight into Captain Hook as a character, as well as (to a lesser degree) the other pirates who occupy Neverland. How do you interpret the pirates' positions on Neverland in our reading for today (Chapters 12-14)? How do they begin to fit into the tension on Neverland between "play/pretend" and "real" violence? How do you interpret their interactions with Peter, The Lost Boys, and (importantly) Wendy? How does Hook's characterization in these chapters complicate him as an antagonist, and add depth to the narrative? How can we begin to unpack his connection to England/the "real" world and "good form"?
Let me know if you have any question and I will upload a picture of the book.
