Analyze what the use of color symbolizes in the film. Pick 3-4 scenes that contain the change from black and white to color. Explain where and when color appears in the scenes and what it symbolizes. You might want to focus on what turns people (not just items) to color – For example, you could analyze what makes Jennifer, David, Betty, and/or George (etc) turn to color. Use at least one outside source to support your ideas. The sources that might be the most helpful are “Pleasantville, Aristotle, and the Meaning of Life” and a portion of the book entitled Interrogating the Image: Movies and the World of Film and Television. However, “Pleasantville and the Nostalgia for Eden,” might also be helpful.
