POST-REVOLUTIONARY DEMOCRATIZATION Joyce Appleby and Gordon Wood both argue that the first generation after the Revolution experienced rapid social and political change that involved a democratization of society beyond what was accomplished by the Revolution to 1789. But, both historians are interpreting the notion of "democratization" very broadly, it is as much social as political. From the perspective of these two historians how had American society become radically more "democratic" by about 1815 to 1820?
