The ways in which power affects conflicts depend largely upon how it is utilized by those who wield authority over others. At its most basic level, power gives those who possess it an upper hand in any given situation. Those without much control over their lives may feel helpless against someone or something that has the means of manipulating them into submission; this creates animosity between the two sides and often leads to conflict of some sort. For example, factory owners taking advantage of desperate workers by paying them unfair wages and forcing them to work long hours would likely cause these workers to become disgruntled and eventually form unions or revolt against the unhappy state of affairs they find themselves in. In such a case, the unequal distribution of power contributes directly to the emergence of a conflictual situation. Additionally, when competition arises between individuals or groups for more control over resources–which itself is driven by higher ambitions for greater societal standing–conflicts naturally follow suit due to disagreements about how best these resources should be managed and distributed among members of society at large. Such conflicts are not only characterized by competition but also contain aspects of injustice due to disparities in access: certain social classes have more tools available for obtaining wealth and privilege than others do; thus, causes resentment among members from lower classes seeking status equality within society too. This type of struggle is often perpetuated by hegemonic forces (such as governments) whose aim it is preserve existing systems that benefit elite members while keeping marginalized groups disadvantaged through exploitation—the effects hereof being no less than substantial clashes arising out of unequal distributions (or lack thereof) related powers/resources within societies all around us today .
