You should describe this controversy in about 1-2 pages and provide several (at least 2-3) sources that you plan to use for further research about the controversy. Because we are investigating public controversies in this course, it may be appropriate for some of these sources to be from the mainstream press; however, at least two sources should be academic journal articles or books. n more detail during the remainder of the course. Sample Solution

The scientific controversy that I plan to investigate is whether the reduction in atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO2) concentrations by geoengineering techniques can effectively mitigate climate change. This issue has been a widely studied topic of discussion among scientists and policymakers for many years, as it could potentially provide an alternate solution to global warming beyond traditional mitigation strategies such as renewable energy sources and
emissions control policies. While there are those who argue that this form of engineering is necessary in light of increasingly dire predictions about the effects of climate change, there are also those who caution against its implementation due to concerns over its potential unintended consequences on ecosystems and human populations. To further examine this controversy, I will look at various peer-reviewed research studies from journals such as Nature Climate Change, Climatic Change, Environment Research Letters, and others. In addition, I will draw on articles from newspapers such as The New York Times and The Guardian which have covered different aspects of the debate surrounding geoengineering. Furthermore, I will use books such as “Geoengineering: A Closer Look” by Alastair Brown to understand both sides of the argument more thoroughly. In my analysis of these sources, I hope to gain a better understanding of how effective geoengineering could be in mitigating climate change and what potential risks may be associated with it if implemented improperly or without proper assessment beforehand. Additionally, I aim to explore how different stakeholders view this technology – scientists vs policymakers vs environmental activists –and any existing divisions between them regarding their stance on geoengineering’s role in combating global warming . Ultimately through my examination into this scientific controversy ,I aim to arrive at some conclusion about the efficacy and safety of using this strategy for addressing climate change
