Imagine that an American family is planning a permanent move to Japan. There are three children in the family: a one-year-old infant, a 4-year-old, and a 15-year-old. Will all of the children become similarly proficient in Japanese, or will the children’s proficiency differ? If it will differ, how will it differ among the children and why? Identify evidence from at least one scientific study discussed in class or in the book to justify your answer.
