ROLE PLAY VIDEO, Select one case study and utilize attachments for guideline to assess a psych patient during an appointment.
The purpose is to demonstrate use of therapeutic communication,
self-awareness, empathy integrating information from class content. Additionally, the student will include a recommendation for one health promotion activity applicable to the client in the chosen case scenario. The student may use the list of therapeutic
communication skills provided in the course.
CHOOSE 1 CASE STUDY
Case study #1: A mildly depressed 39-year-old client is referred to outpatient therapy eight months after giving birth to her fifth child. She talks with a bland affect when describing her lack of interest in being a mother. It has been difficult for her to get out of bed in the morning and showering/hygiene has been sporadic. She reports her husband is upset because he wants things to
get back to “normal.”
Case study #2: During a therapy session, a client recently diagnosed with cancer tells you that his doctor discussed a course of radiation and chemotherapy as his best option. He tells you he is upset and frightened about the proposed treatment and states that he isn’t sure if he would go through with it.
Case Study #3: A 17-year-old who has come to therapy regarding feeling stressed and exhausted all of the time, sleeping badly, having frequent headaches and persistent worries about her school. She describes being unable to relax, constantly thinking about mistakes she might have made and not being accepted by her friends.
