Reading epidemiologic studies

  1. Find and read a journal article that uses a case-control or cohort study design. As you are reading the article, what potential sources of bias occur to you? a. Have the authors tried to minimize bias to the extent possible? If so, how? b. Can you think of other ways some ofthe study's potential biases could have been prevented or minimized? c. Does the limitations section ofthe article adequately address your concerns about potential study biases? 2. Read a journal article that was based on a cohort or case-control study (it can be the same article used in part one or a different article). Review the Hill Criteria for Establishing Causation. Which criteria were addressed and which criteria do you believe were met? Did the authors emphasize certain criteria over others, and ifso, why do you think they did so?
