Recommendation letter
Describe the applicant's qualifications for graduate study.
Explain your rankings from the form above and offer a candid assessment that will help us make a decision that is good for both the applicant and the graduate program.
What do you consider to be the applicant’s weaknesses /development needs?
In addition, they have held leadership roles in various organizations, which shows that they are capable of working cooperatively to achieve a goal while taking initiative and demonstrating good problem solving skills. The applicant has also conducted research during their studies, which suggests an ability to think critically and analyze complex data sets.
Given these strengths, I would rank the applicant as an A+ candidate for our graduate program. Their qualifications suggest that they will be able to contribute positively to our class discussions and research efforts, both through their knowledge base and leadership capabilities. Furthermore, I believe the applicant will be successful as part of our program because of their willingness to challenge themselves academically as well as professionally by participating in activities such as research projects outside the classroom setting.
The only potential weakness or development need I see in this application is the applicant’s lack of professional experience outside of academia. While the activities listed on their resume indicate some level of soft skills development, it may be beneficial for them to gain work experience before pursuing higher education at our institution so that they can fine tune those skills even further before entering into a more rigorous academic environment than what they currently have access to as an undergraduate student.
