Most nations of the world face the issue of multicultural edu- cation because of the global movement of populations caused by the growth of an international labor market, multinational corporations, the search for better eco- nomic and political conditions, and displacement by war. As the host country of the largest number of global migrants, Americans have engaged in a broad spectrum of debates about what should be the type of multicultural and multilingual educa- tion in schools. The issue of basic cultural differences in worldviews is part of the discus- sion of multicultural and multilingual education. Also, some of multicultural proposals embrace issues of racism and sexism.
