Research Report Background Ameramotion is an American logistics company headquartered in New York City. It has a small logistics center in Chiang Mai, Thailand that handles a rapidly growing volume of traffic in the Chiang Mai and north Thailand area. Ameramotion has decided that the situation in the Chiang Mai center requires special attention, and will now appoint an expatriate as the next General Manager of Ameramotion Chiang Mai. Ms. Delilah Jones, an American who is the Operations Manager for the Northeast U.S. Region, has been chosen as the next General Manager of Ameramotion Chiang Mai. Her current salary is $170,000, and she is also eligible for a 25 percent bonus if she meets annual performance targets. Ms. Jones is married with a 15 year-old daughter and a 12 year-old son. Her husband, Jack, is a web developer who works at home. Jack and the two kids, who will have to go to school, will accompany Ms. Jones throughout the assignment in Chiang Mai. Ameramotion expects the Jones family to live in Chiang Mai for three years. The family is excited, but they will miss their cozy 1,400 square foot apartment in Brooklyn, which they rent for $3,950 per month. Prepare and price out (using real costs) the expatriate compensation and benefits package for the first year of Ms. Jones’s Chiang Mai assignment, including: a. Salary and all legally required U.S. and Thai benefits and payroll taxes b. Other benefits and allowances you feel are important to making the family’s stay in Chiang Mai successful c. All relevant relocation expenses d. Costs for the first year of the assignment in U.S. dollars: Assume a U.S. dollar – Thai baht exchange rate of USD1 = THB32.50. e. PLEASE DISREGARD INCOME TAXES – Income taxes will be equalized by the company. 2. Attach your spreadsheet to a short memo to me (maximum five bullet points of no more than two sentences each in the body of your memo) in which you explain the philosophy or rationale behind your proposed package. Write no more than one page (12-point Times New Roman font, 1” margins). 3. A list of sources you used in completing the assignment 4. Include the signed, handwritten Honor Pledge: “On my honor, as a student, this is my own work unless otherwise cited. I have neither given nor received unauthorized aid on this academic work.” This assignment is worth 18 percent of your semester grade. I will grade your work on the completeness and clarity of both the spreadsheet and the reasoning behind the compensation and benefits package you design. Thanks in advance for your hard work on this assignment.
