Kim and Hargrove, (2013), what accounts for this pattern of African American male educational under achievement? Past literature has often used a deficit-informed framework to answer this question,
portraying Black male students as incapable, unintelligent, disadvantaged, and at-risk to fail at best (Fries-Britt, 1997; Harper, 2009; Jenkins, 2006), (p.300). In an attempt to address the gap I
have identified in the dissertation study and research (still to comprehensively decide on that final topic), this study will fill that gap by examining the structure of the educational system in
inner cities, all male institution, predominantly white school both male and co-ed. There is also the need to examined the social, political and economic aspect of society and the connection to the
educational system and find why the system failing the African American / Caribbean males. There is a great disparity among African American /Caribbean males and non-African American / Caribbean
males in educational achievement.
One might say there are some justification in prior research but looking at the penile institutes and the number of African American / Caribbean males there is alarming and beckoned the question
why in 2017 so many African American / Caribbean males are incarcerated. Is it because of a failed educational system? This study will seek to address the statement that the gap of educational
achievement exists even before kids start school.
