Writing well in science requires familiarity with effective rhetorical practices common to science writing. For this assignment, I will ask you to identify 3
separate, distinct examples of effective rhetorical practices in scientific writing from your own discipline or a scientific discipline interesting and
familiar to you. When you identify the rhetorical practice, I’ll ask that you write up the following to describe its use and effectiveness:
Describe where you found the rhetorical practice (e.g. audience, purpose and context of the article)
Summarize the rhetorical practice (How does the rhetorical practice work in general?)
Explain the author’s use of the rhetorical practice (Why has the author used this practice?)
Argue for the effectiveness of the rhetorical device (Does the rhetorical device work in the context of the piece?)
