Ring Tailed Lemurs

Zoo Primatology Project
The purpose of this project is to conduct an original research project. You will spend the semester coming up with a research question, reading
articles, conduct a behavioral analysis of primates housed at the Hattiesburg Zoo, and write up your paper (including a literature review, methods, and
conclusion). Now that you have a better understanding of the living primate species, you will come up with a question that you want to ask and
choose one of the following species:
• Black Howler Monkey
• Ringtail Lemur
• Crowned Lemur
• Cotton-Top Tamarin
• Black and White Ruffed Lemur
• Lion Tail Macaque
• DeBrazza’s Monkey
You will conduct a combination of focal continuous and scan samples. You will then analyze that data and write in into a report to be handed in to me
via Canvas no later than April 29 at Midnight. Raw data will also need to be turned in at that time. You can either scan your handwritten notes, or you
may type them and submit them that way.
Requirements:
2 hours of observations (1.5 hours or 3, 30 minute focal follows, and 3, 10 minute scan samples)
Undergrads: 10 page write-up, with at least 3 outside resources
Grads: 15 page write up, with at least 5 outside resources
