Assume that you are the newly-elected Governor of your state and you have to decide how to address the structural budget shortfall (or surplus, you choose) of $1-
2 billion you discovered once you started preparing your recommended state budget for FY 2020.
Write the most powerful statement you have ever written to advocate for whatever positions you believe in
to address your state’s fiscal situation. Seek more or different revenues, reform, and offer new, consolidate or eliminate any programs you choose, cut taxes, whatever. Everyone claims that their favorite programs are underfunded, while others urge more tax cuts. What factors do you consider, what interest groups must you respond to and why and how do you decide how much revenue to raise (or cut) what sources to increase or not, and what services to cut or expand? Consider the pressures that all governors are facing regarding Obamacare reform and funding Medicaid. NO platitudes like: “I would be open to considering
that.” Clearly state your priorities and why you support them.
Things to know about me:
- I live in California and am a Republican
- I think Gavin Newsom is an idiot and has wasted a lot of this state’s money
- Programs I would reform are welfare- I would mandate schooling, vocational or regular, and drug
testing to qualify. I would make incentive programs for recent graduates for small business loans. - I would cut the cost of what it takes to become an LLC in California
- Since California is such a welfare state, Obamacare only hurt the working class and small business.
There is already Medi-Cal for low income. I want Obamacare to go away completely in this state - I would like to see more mental health facilities and drug rehabilitation centers all over California including the small rural area. Private and government-funded something for everyone.
- I am pro-gun
- I am a pro-same-sex marriage
- I am all about the less federal government and more state sovereignty
- All about reducing state income tax in California too
- I am a female.
