Read the following 3 cases and use them to answer questions 1 and 2
1.) Write a synthesized rule from the 3 cases listed below…please remember the synthesized rule is 1 rule for all 3 cases combined.
2.) Draft an IRAC essay based on the synthesized rule for Lee`s process to grant or deny a request to change the standard working day for one of his employees.
Company Work tall sells widgets in North America with its own manufacturing plant in Massachusetts. The employee handbook states that the standard working day is considered to be 8 am – 5 pm Monday – Friday due to the company headquarters in Delaware and the main customers are in the U.S. east coast. A manager has the ability to define a standard working day for the employees he/she manages given that the hours and responsibilities remain the same.
Please read the following 3 cases and use them to answer questions 1 and 2
Case 1: Jon, a sales guy, works in California. Jon asks his manager, Lee (west coast director), if he can switch his standard working day to 8 am – 5 pm Pacific time (3 hours later than Eastern Time, the equivalent of 11 am – 8 pm Eastern time). Lee approves the change of working hours because Jon sells to companies on the west coast who would not be open for business at 8 am eastern time and would close much later than 5 pm eastern time (2 pm Pacific time).
Case 2: Lou, a remote customer service agent based in Oregon, asks his manager, also Lee, if he can switch his working hours to Pacific time like Jon. Lee denies this request because most of Worktable’s customers are based in the East, therefore, most customer service calls are during the standard working hours on the east coast.
Case 3: Ava works in Arizona as a remote product engineer collaborating with engineers back in Delaware, and also reports to Lee. She asks if she could modify her work schedule to be consistent for her, 6 am to 3 pm Arizona time. This time aligns with the standard working hours in Delaware for half the year, but would be an hour earlier for the other six months, because Arizona does not change time. Lee denies her request, because the he wants Ava’s hours to be the same as the colleagues she collaborates with back in Delaware.
