Sample Solution
The goal of this PSA is to bring awareness to the importance of seatbelt use. The target audience for this PSA are drivers and passengers aged 16-25 from all backgrounds, as they are one of the age groups most at risk when it comes to neglecting seatbelt safety regulations.
Currently in the United States, motor vehicle crashes remain a leading cause of death for those ages 16-25 (CDC, 2020). Unfortunately, many fatalities that involve individuals in that age group could have been prevented if the correct safety measures were taken; such as wearing a seat belt. In fact, according to data collected by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) from 2017-2019, over 66% of young adults who died in fatal car accidents were not using their seatbelts at the time (NHTSA, 2019).
By understanding how essential it is to buckle up every journey no matter how short or familiar, lives can be saved and injuries avoided. Wearing a seat belt while driving or riding in a vehicle has proven to be an effective way reduce fatalities or serious injury due to an automobile accident (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety [IIHS], 2020). Therefore it is important for people understand why taking these simple precautions when travelling by car can drastically reduce their chances of being seriously injured or killed during a motor vehicle crash.
