Self-Evaluation Paper and Lab Audio
1. What did you learn about being a role-play counselor?
2. What skills did you use during the session? What, if any, skills do you wish
you had used, used more of, or not used?
3. How effectively did you listen and respond to the client? How do you know?
4. What were your thoughts about the session after you reviewed the tape (i.e.,
were you feeling different than right after you finished the session)?
5. In what way were your own personal experiences, attitudes, values, or beliefs
coming into your experience as you worked with the client (i.e., what
emotional reactions did you have to your client during or after the session)?
Did these experiences impact your work with the client?
6. What did you learn from the overall experience of being a role-play client?
7. What did you learn from the overall experience of being an observer of the
helping process (i.e., how will this affect your skills)? This is not a critique of
whom you observed.
8. What did you learn about yourself through this experience (e.g., helping
abilities, personal growth, cultural issues, emotions, etc.)? What were you
most surprised to learn about yourself (personally and professionally)?
9. What skills need improvement and how will you address these areas?
