This option consists of creating a proposal for a new STAR TREK series of franchise, which could also be a spin-off of an existing series. Your proposal should be 8-10 double-spaced pages in which you detail how your proposed series will expand the STAR TREK universe while also holding true to the narrative world that already exists (even if you have to “bend” it a little bit to accommodate new characters, situations, or ideas). A significant component of this proposal should be your discussion of why this new series should exist. For instance, you might consider what kinds of new characters your series will introduce into the STAR TREK universe, and why they are important. What kinds of situations will your series explore? What narrative conflicts or tensions will be new, and how will they appeal to contemporary audiences? Most importantly, what will your new series bring to contemporary viewers of STAR TREK that will speak to their interests and needs? Be sure to include descriptions of characters, general plot conflicts, and what a pilot episode might look like. You should make frequent reference to existing STAR TREK characters or story arcs to help build the connection to your new series, and you should consider how you might explore, expand, augment, or challenge the themes we have been discussing in class as they relate to your series proposal.
