Should we be Stoics or Cynics

Order Description Given that our “Post-Truth” society is far from just, which strategy, Stoicism or Cynicism, is the best strategy for human flourishing (eudaimonia)? One might consider Stoicism to be an elaboration of the Greek philosophical tradition, firmly rooted in the teachings developed by Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle. On the other hand, Plato once described Diogenes the Cynic as “Socrates gone mad.” Although very different in their executions, both Stoicism and Cynicism argue for cosmopolitanism and both define justice in terms of living in harmony with natural processes. However, which approach is the best strategy for human flourishing in the “Post-Truth” era—the anarcho-moralist Cynics (crust-punks) or the apathetic, ultra-rational Stoics (Mr. Spock)? Guidelines: • Minimum of 3 pages, double spaced, 1 inch margins, Times New Roman • Cite at least two sources using MLA or Chicago format. • Be sure to explain the competing views before you critique them and make your argument as to which is the best strategy for human flourishing in the “Post-Truth” era.
