The current situation of smoking or vaping is that it has become an increasingly popular activity among teenagers and young adults. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more than 5 million middle and high school students had used e-cigarettes in 2018, a 78% increase from 2017. Additionally, tobacco use is one of the leading causes of preventable disease and death in the United States, killing over 480,000 people each year.
It is important for people to be aware of this topic because cigarette smoking can cause serious health problems such as cancer, stroke, heart attack and lung diseases. It also costs many lives each year due to its addictive nature. In addition to negative health effects on individuals who smoke or vape, secondhand smoke also affects bystanders which can lead to increased risk of respiratory illnesses like bronchitis or pneumonia. Furthermore economic effects are seen due to medical costs associated with treating smokers & vapers related illnesses as well as decreased productivity in workplaces when employees take time off due to illness caused by smoking or vaping products
Awareness needs to be brought about regarding this issue so that people are informed about the risks associated with these activities & make decisions accordingly. People need to understand how dangerous it can be if they choose not only for them but those around them too . Education should be made available as well so that teens & young adults know what they’re getting into when it comes to nicotine addiction & other behaviors related to smoking/vaping . This way they can make more educated decisions before engaging in these activities & therefore reduce the impact on their overall health and those around them
