Construct a playlist, setting up a meaningful sequence of at least 6 songs from the Songbook list. Your submissions should be roughly 4 to 6 pages. The assignment will include two written sections: 1. A list of the songs, composers, original production dates and venues (exactly like you’ve been getting in the weekly playlists) 2. A narrative account of how the songs work as a sequence. Here you will need to spell out the direction you see conveyed by the lyrics. You should also indicate how you see the emotions/ wishes/expectations of each song as they translate into, or lead towards, the next. It may be helpful to refer to the original narrative contexts the songs were written for, but you can also use your sequence as a way of indicating other scenarios to which the songs lend themselves. Your account will also need to discuss the specific musical renderings you’ve selected, commenting on the dynamics, instrumentations, variable tempos (and how they contribute to the sequencing), and how the choice of singers and their styles contributes to your overall intended effect.
