Unionization has had a significant impact on wages, hours and working conditions for Southwest Airlines employees. Before unionizing with TWU in 2010, wages at Southwest were extremely low compared to other airlines. In addition to improving wages and benefits packages for its members SWU also helped protect working conditions at Southwest Airlines by negotiating standardized schedules that gave workers greater control over their work lives. With no set schedules prior to unionizing pilots’ hours could vary significantly from month-to-month making it difficult for them to balance family life with responsibilities on the job - but through collective bargaining they were eventually able achieve some level of predictability when it came scheduling shifts each month which ultimately improved morale amongst pilots at the company and reduced fatigue associated with excessive flying times . Overall it's clear that unionization has had a positive effect on both wages, hours and working conditions for those employed by SouthWest Airlines thanks largely in part due its partnership with Transport Workers Union of America (TWU).
