General Directions
Follow the instructions of each assignment separately, they are all different assignments with different formatting. Check Syllabus file for general formatting directions. Message me if any of the links or examples do not work. Message me with any questions.
1 IPDA Debate Flowing Assignment
General Directions
You will need:
● 3 -4 pieces of paper
● 2 different color pens
Watch the posted debate ( https://youtu.be/WrNEJmS0x7M ) and flow the arguments from each of the debaters.
I recommend watching the first woman speak then pause the show. Look at your notes, fix what you think you should etc. Then watch the cross-examination – I usually use a different color pen to write out the questions and draw a box around them. Then pause and watch the gentleman present his speech (use a different color pen) and refute her speech… and so on and so on.
Then at the end of the debate go over your flow & submit the following along with a picture or pictures of your flow
● Write down the 2 strongest and 2 weakest arguments for each speaker.
● Tell me who you believe won
● Give an RFD or a reason for the decision

2 Advantages Assignment
Directions: (use Town Hall Policy Brief attached separately)
You are to write 3 advantages to your TownHall Policy Brief as explained in the lecture (Links to an external site.).
Set them up as the following
Advantage 1 -Tagline (e.g. Econ/Death/More jobs etc)
A: Harms
Describe a specific problem that’s happening in the status quo
B: Link
Explain how your plan specifically resolves this problem
C: Impacts
Include 3-5 numbered outcomes of your plan (what are the ultimate benefits of passing your plan?)
3 Toulmin Assignment
General Directions:
Follow the format, provide research, and explain your position. 2-paged double spaced, keep labeled, and include work cited. DO NOT use pages to upload. Have access to or notes to discuss your assignment in class.
Toulmin Assignment:
Background: Explain what is currently happening concerning a foreign affair.
Claim: State what you are trying to prove.
Ground: Present evidence for your claim and discuss why your evidence is valid.
Warrant: Present an explanation for the Claim. Why is your claim true?

Background: Fill out a brief couple of sentences to a paragraph about what has been going on.
Claim: Bissau-Guineans’ do not know who to trust or what to trust due to political corruption.
Grounds: use the article to support your claim.
Warrant: explain how the grounds support the claim. Answer the “so what” “and” “why”
4 Value Debate Brief

What is Due
A value brief outline dealing with the resolution:
Government surveillance does more harm than good
Meaning you will be writing an affirmative case on why it does more harm
You should
● Keep every labeled
● Organized
● State a criteria
● Have 3 observations/contentions
● 1 claim under each of those
● Use taglines
● At least 3 pieces of evidence cited within the brief
● Include an APA work cited at the end
