In this essay you will choose symbols in two of the works*, and analyze how these symbols function in the works and what they reveal about the characters or
themes of the works as a whole. You will be showing how the authors realized the theme/s or the "so what” through these symbols.Remember,you are always
writing about the effect of the literary elements(in this case,symbols)on the work/s as a whole, and you would never simply mention them without regard to the
effects upon the works as they are.
