The Causing of the American Revolution
Background Information
The causing of the American Revolution is a significant topic since it facilitates people to know what led to the Revolutionary War. Notably, several factors are
listed under the causes of the Revolutionary War. It can be noted that the conflict leading to the war stemmed from escalating tensions between the colonial government
and the residents of Great Britain’s 13 North American colonies. This resulted to a full swing war in the following summer. Significant aspects to note regarding the
topic include France supported the Americans, which resulted to an international conflict (Parkinson, 2016). Research asserts that French support had marked the end of
the war although the fighting continued until the end of 1783. However, it is also significant to mention that prior to the war; escalating tensions were evident
between the British authorities and the colonists.
Literature Review
Some of the leading causes of The Revolutionary War include, but are not limited to imposition of taxes to colonists by the British Empire, reluctance of wanting to be
led by people that are an ocean away, the requirement for the American Colonies to pay a large share of debt from the Indian and French War, the need for Americans to
be represented in Britain’s Parliament or vote for the British lawmakers, which resulted to coining of the term “taxation without representation (Wahlke, 2013).” Some
renowned people in America during that time also lobbied for the America’s independence. Some of these people include Thomas Paine and Patrick Henry. Lastly, there was
an upsurge of war as Americans commenced to stockpile ammunition and guns,

which deviated from British laws. Notably, this is the cause of the Revolutionary War since it led to shots been fired at Concord and Lexington causing the
Revolutionary War (Strum, 2005).
Research Question
This research proposal will seek to establish what contributed to American people deeming themselves independent and seeking the same. Another significant question
that this research proposal will seek to address regards the imposition of a fine over Americans proceeding from the French and Indian War. There is also the Stamp
Act, Sugar Act, and other taxes that contributed to the Americans revolting against the British. The Americans considered the Acts as harsh and explains why they rose
against the British, which this paper will seek to ascertain. Representation is a significant factor and it seems the British did not allow the Americans to be
represented in the parliament for reasons that this research paper will establish. Notably, there are significant people that contributed to the revolution. For
instance, Thomas Paine and Patrick Henry were influential to the attainment of American independence. Thus, this paper will seek to establish the roles they played in
lobbying. There is also a significant phrase coined with regards to harsh taxes and lack of American representation in the parliament. The phrase is “taxation without
representation.” This proposal will seek to establish what the phrase entailed and the inherent factors. Lastly, there is evidence regarding Americans stockpiling;
thus, the paper will inquire regarding the role of the stockpiles and how it violated the British law.
The main source for the material will be The Causes of the American Revolution authored by (Anderson, 2006). The source is extensive and offers significant information
regarding the topic.
