The Dominican Republic was considered to have a stable economy, immigration of its citizens was unheard and the Dominican “peso” to be at par with the US dollar. Dominican seldom left their homeland. In the 1960’s we saw a mass immigration of Dominican people to the United States. What caused this great exodus? What were the socio/political conditions in the Dominican Republic that prompted this change? What role did the USA play in this change? What were the “push” and “pull” factors?
