nfortunately, research has indicated a high correlation between prison and low reading score/levels of 3rd
grade students. Students reading 2 or more levels below their grade are at-risk. As a result, a researcher has
developed an early intervention reading program for 1st graders and wants to test the effectiveness. The
researcher randomly chooses four 1st grade classrooms in an elementary school and obtains permission to
complete the research from the school board and school principal. Students are randomly selected using the
combined roster from all four classroom with every 3rd students being placed into either the control or
experimental group. No one at the school or even the research assistants will know which students are
receiving the intervention. There are a total of 26 students in the control group and 26 in the experimental
group. The researcher has two assistants who will help him conduct the research. Each assistant will meet with
their assigned groups for 30 minutes twice a week for three weeks. Both groups will take a pre-reading test (to
establish a baseline reading score) and post-reading test (to measure effectiveness). The researcher predicts
that the students receiving the intervention in the experimental group will have improved reading scores. The
control group will not receive the reading intervention but will meet at the same time as the experimental group
for the same duration with the assistant reading stories with coloring sheets. The researcher will collect the
data and measure results at the end of the experiment.
