Sample Solution
My research project for the Week 5 Final Project will be an examination of the role of family in promoting mental health among adolescents. This project is inspired by my study of MHHS Case Study and other relevant literature, as well as my own personal interest in understanding how family dynamics can impact a person’s mental health.
My goal is to understand how families can create positive and supportive environments that foster resilience and protect adolescents from adverse outcomes related to mental health issues.
The major components of this research project include first, examining existing research on the topic; second, developing a comprehensive theoretical framework that explains the role of family in promoting adolescent mental health; third, interviewing expert practitioners who have experience working with adolescents; fourth, conducting interviews with families experiencing various levels of family functioning; fifth, using qualitative analysis to assess interview data for themes related to family roles in supporting adolescence mental health.
This project will support what I have learned throughout my degree program by providing me with an opportunity to apply many concepts from psychology such as attachment theory, the biopsychosocial model, systems theory and relapse prevention strategies. Additionally it will provide me with hands-on experience conducting interviews and analyzing data which is essential for any practitioner working within psychology or counseling fields. Finally this project has direct implications for clinical practice because it could offer new insights into ways families can effectively promote positive youth development while also addressing potential areas of risk concerning adolescent mental health issues such as substance abuse or suicidal ideation.
