Professor intructions:
A 4-5 page analytical review of the book that you have been assigned for review which should provide:
(1) a brief synopsis of the central argument(s) of the book;
(2) your evaluation of how effectively the argument(s) has/have been articulated;
(3) your assessment of the book as a contribution to your understanding of the central themes of the course; and,
(4) your suggestions about ways that the book could be improved in terms of providing more information,
closely focused analysis, and links to other written sources that would help the reader to develop a broader
view of the issues covered. This assignment is designed to allow you to demonstrate the ability to summarize and evaluate critically the information/knowledge that you are acquiring in this course. It also requires you
provide a brief structured assessment of the contribution of the book to your own intellectual appreciation of
the complex issues that the course and class discussion address. The ability to synthesize information and
arguments advanced by authors will prove important in future professional contexts and/or graduate school. It
is not simply a class assignment, it is also a pathway to thinking critically and creatively about how you learn
and use information effectively.
