    The theme of companionship has been a major component in many works of literature throughout history. In the 8th grade poem “Nothing Gold Can Stay” by Robert Frost, this idea is explored to great effect. The poem focuses on how people are naturally drawn to one another and

that no matter the circumstances it is something that cannot be denied. Throughout the poem Frost uses metaphors and symbolism to illustrate how having someone to lean on can help even difficult situations seem more bearable. By focusing on these two concepts Frost shows that there is beauty in finding somebody you can rely on whether it be for comfort or strength. Frost begins his poem with a description of nature at its most perfect moment when everything from leaves to flowers are full of life: “Nature's first green is gold, / Her hardest hue to hold” (Lines 1-2). This serves as a reminder that all good things must come to an end eventually, but for now it’s still possible to appreciate what we have. He then continues by noting how “Her early leaf's a flower; / But only so an hour” (Lines 3-4). This line further emphasizes the idea of impermanence while also highlighting the importance of seizing opportunities as they present themselves since such moments don’t last forever. It symbolizes how even if we try our best, some things will pass too quickly before we can truly enjoy them which makes companionship even more precious and invaluable because it provides us with stability during times when everything else seems uncertain.
