Why Virginia Tech should replace the hot-water heaters in my dorm
Order Description
identify a problem in the local community and each write an essay proposing a different solution to the problem. The target audience for this essay will be a planning
committee. Keep this in mind through your writing process as you may need to make different rhetorical decisions when your target audience is an official committee
compared to when your target audience is a teacher.
The paper needs to address:
? What the problem is.
? Why the community should be concerned about this problem (perhaps address the consequences of not fixing the problem).
? What can be done to remedy the problem/what is your solution.
? Why your solution is the best solution.
You are free to choose which problem you would like to address. It can deal directly with Virginia Tech, or the surrounding areas. Maybe the stairwell in your dorm is
treacherous when it’s raining outside. Maybe you want to address dating life in Blacksburg. Perhaps you’re tired of cadets walking four abreast down the sidewalk
forcing you to step into the mud. Maybe you want to address the fact there could be less support groups for minorities at Virginia Tech. Maybe every student should
have a free Netflix account or maybe find a way to block all Netflix accounts being used by students. Lowering tuition at Virginia Tech. The possibilities are endless.
The essay portion should be a a minimum of 4 full pages of text and include pictures that show the problem and/or how the solution would work. You can provide
counterarguments to make your argument stronger. Your paper should still be in proper MLA format (12 points Times New Roman, double spaced) and stapled.
There are ways to provide evidence for your argument. For example, looking at other essays. For instace one can use “College Pressues” out of the CVT book to discuss
being a college students. One can use “On Being a Cripple” if discussing needs of people with disabbilities on campus. Incoporating interviews with a person can be a
way of retrieving information. The essay should have at least one outside source but no more than two since it’s only a one page
