Business environment analysis

You may take one of the following roles: 1) an entrepreneur planning to start-up a venture, 2) a strategy analyst working for a corporation or an investment bank. Taking a specific role will help you identify a specific business question or problem where business environment analysis can provide you insights that you can use for a decision or a recommendation.
A suggested outline for the report could be as follows:
1. What is the “business” question – What is the study trying to achieve? Why did you choose it? For example, you may be interested in expanding or launching a business, and would like to know whether the business environment is favourable or not.
2. What is the relevant business environment –Introduce the specific macro and operating environment.
3. Using a suitable analysis tool (e.g. PEST) to identify the key issues in the macro business environment. You should use data and evidence to explain what underlie them. Explore the implications of these issues to your business question/problem.
4. Using a suitable analysis tool (e.g. 5 Forces or 4 Links) to identify the key issues in the operating business environment. You should use data and evidence to explain what underlie them. Explore the implications of these issues to your business question/problem.
