Introduction To What has the Graduate Diploma done for me?
The outcome of this project is a 1000-word reflective summary (incorporating additional visualisations or other non-written elements?) in which you present your personal trajectory through the course, and identify the key learning outcomes of the experience for you as a creative practitioner. You should identify and reflect on what creative practice means to you, and how the experience of being on the course has informed or changed this view.
The purpose of this project is to allow you to examine your own motivations as a creative practitioner in art and design, and identify your future ambitions for Masters-level study and subsequent professional practice. Here are a number of guiding questions which might help you in this project:

What are the most important or interesting aspects of creative practice for me?
What are my particular strengths as a creative practitioner?
What capabilities would I particularly like to develop?
Whose praise for, or acceptance of, my work do I most value?
What cultural and social factors influence me as a creative practitioner?
What is the role of the professional artist/designer in society?
How do I see the identity of the professional artist/designer?
What is my personal manifesto as a creative practitioner?
Who is my audience? Who do I want to design/make work for?
Why do I want to be an artist or designer?
For all these questions – how has the experience of being on the course informed or changed your views?

You should also look beyond your own direct experiences, and pay particular attention to the module Learning Outcome which states: “Assess the critical judgements of others and recognise their personal strengths and needs.” To do so you should engage with literature and published commentary on your creative discipline(s), and use this to frame your understanding of your own position. Your opinions should always be informed by a consideration of other views and positions.

The programme for this second element of Core II consists of a series of writing / communication exercises, in each of which you will address one of the questions above. You get to choose which of these questions you think are most important and you want to respond to. On completion of these exercises, you will then develop a single integrated 1000-word outcome which encapsulates these previous pieces. This final outcome should be approached as a communication design project – it can incorporate additional visualisations or other non-written elements; in fact it should not be simply a written text.
